As guessing is against common wiki policy, there has been and shall not be any attempt to deduce what these words originally were.

In the very beginning of SQ the two golden rules you see below were all we really needed. People were smart and friendly enough not to wrong each other in big ways. However over time as the community changed and evolved a more detailed ruleset was required. As of today a few of the players feel like the rules are there to protect them from being banned when doing something sketchy as anything not detailed in the rules is considered okay to do””. Well I am here to tell you that it is not “totes ok”. Effective from this point forward, “Golden Rule I” will be enforced as a server policy. If you do something that clearly should be wrong but is not in the rules at the time, we will not hesitate to take action against you. As a player you now have the responsibility to use logic and decide if what you are about to do could get you in trouble. Literally all you have to do is ask a mod or post in these forums and an answer will get back to you. If you do not make any attempts to ask if a sketchy action is legal then that is not on us, it is on you. I hope we are all mature enough not to search out “loopholes” in the rules in an effort to grief or harass other players “legally”.

Starquest Server RulesEdit

Golden Rule: Use Common Sense. If you think you shouldn't be doing something, don't do it. If you have any questions about the rules please ask a member of staff.

Golden Rule II: SQ is a very unique server with many ways to die. Whether its from pirates, mobs, or dangerous terrain, we’d like to ask that you refrain from raging when you die. Death will happen, so be ready to handle it when it comes!

Golden Rule III: If you encounter a bug in SQ it is your duty as a player to help fix it! The only way this can happen is if you report it. You can use the “Report a Bug” link on the nav bar to do so.

Title 1: Chat Conduct Edit

StarQuest's family friendly server contains nothing in theme, language, nudity, Potato, violence, or other matters that, in the view of the staff team, would offend parents whose younger children play on the server. All violations of sustaining a family friendly server environment will be dealt with by a staff team member. Essentially this section can boil down to one ultimate point: Don’t be a jerk.

Chapter 1.1 - Capital Words in Chat: Edit

Overuse of capital words in chat is prohibited. The general rule of thumb is no more than 3 capitalized words in a sentence. Follow the spirit of the rules, capslock is not cool. Use sense.

Chapter 1.2 - Spam in Chat: Edit

Spam. We all know what it is, and nobody likes it. Refrain from saying the same thing more than three times consecutively, it clogs chat and causes distractions and disturbances. Obviously there are exceptions, but again use some sense. However, if all you are here to do is spam things, then you may receive a stronger punishment.

Chapter 1.3 - Cursing: Edit

Cursing: SQ currently has an auto kick feature that will (you guessed it) automatically kick you upon swearing. Any attempts to avoid being kicked by making minor alterations to the word’s spelling will be met with punishment. Misspelled characters include but are not limited to: “ph - f”, “i-1”, “o-0”, “*”, etc. Also, the use of many symbols in a row will be considered swearing: “@#~*!”. This also includes abbreviations of inappropriate language such as 'Potato, dafuq, bch, etc'. NOTE: As some curse words are debatably worse than others, a mod may skip the first offence punishment if he feels necessary.

Chapter 1.4 - Bullying: Edit

Bullying: It is illegal to directly or indirectly verbally assault a player in any form of chat. Harassment also includes slander. Slander is the action or crime of making a false spoken statement damaging to a person's reputation. This rule also applies to the community's Teamspeak 3 server.

Chapter 1.5 - Private Messages: Edit

Private messages generally follow the same rules as general chat. The exception is that you, the player, must report these messages in the form of a ban request. Please provide screenshots of the chat when doing so so that the staff can be sure that you are telling the truth, as we don’t like to punish people unless we’re sure they did something wrong.

Chapter 1.6 - Player Privacy: Edit

The sharing of a player’s personal information such as their real name, address, birth date, social security number, and other sensitive and personal information is against the rules, unless the player permits it. This includes sending the information via private message, server mail, forums mail, or any chat channel. We feel strongly about protecting our players’ privacy unless they wish to share it.

Title 2: Pvp Rules Edit

StarQuest is a PvP based server. In an effort to make PvP fair for everyone we have the following rules. In short, if you are using any resource not intended for vanilla MC, you should stop. The exception to this would be ender pearls which you can learn about below, and of course our starships’ combat mechanisms.

Chapter 2.1 - General Combat: Edit

Any and all players are entitled to hunt and kill other players on every planet server and space server. Players can be killed in many different ways and most of these ways are legal. Any type of kill that is illegal will be explained in one of the following chapters.

Chapter 2.2 - Pvp Regions, Pvp Toggling: Edit

The wilderness is and always will have pvp enabled. If any player is in the wild he or she is susceptible to being killed, hunted, and raided. The following areas are the only places where pvp is usually denied: A) Spawn Station, B) Towns, C) Factions,D) Most world guards, and E) Economic Stations. However, towns, factions, and world guards have the ability for their pvp flag to be toggled on and off. Toggling the pvp flag must be done in the following manner or else it is considered illegal. Foremost, the owner of the land claim must tell, in TOWN OR FACTION chat, that he or she will be switching the flag from Off to On. At this point the flag can be switched. PvP in a given area may only be toggled (On to Off OR Off to On) once every 5 minutes. The reasoning for town or faction chat is that the player entering the town or faction is assuming all risk. Since the player does not belong to this town or faction he should always be prepared to be attacked.

Chapter 2.3 - Illegal Forms of Combat, Combat Logging: Edit

As mentioned before, all types of combat are allowed. However, using any kind of mod that gives you an advantage in combat is strictly forbidden. The following is a list of examples of mods that we consider illegal, though there are plenty of illegal mods that are not in this list. It also includes examples of illegal combat tactics, but other combat tactics not in this list may also be considered illegal.

2.3.1 - Macros are key and mouse bindings that can be used to affect a player’s swing or damage rate and therefore giving that player an unfair advantage.

2.3.2 - Client mods - client mods like Nodus that have features that allow players to hit at an extended distance or at an abnormal rate. Also illegal are any minimaps that show a player’s location and of course, “fly hax”.

2.3.3 - Ender Pearls - It is illegal to use ender pearls to enter/exit a players base that you could not enter without the pearls.

2.3.4 - Using Lag - Using server lag and or locked doors to hit a player where they shouldn’t and couldn’t be normally hit is illegal i.e spamming another player’s locked door to hit them in their base.

2.3.5 - it is forbidden to attach players to your ship. This entails a player driving their ship up to a player and getting them stuck onto their ship without their consent, making it impossible for them to fight back or escape. Furthermore, it is illegal for a player to quickly create a world guard, town, or faction claim to avoid being hurt or killed in PVP. If a player is caught doing this they will receive the appropriate punishment.

2.3.6 - You may not under any circumstances pvp in or outside of spawn station. This rule is to protect new players but any player regardless of how long they have been on this server will be punished if found breaking this rule. *When we say outside this means we don’t want to see anyone sitting close enough to spawn so that they can kill everyone coming out of it.

Title 3: Worldguard Rules Edit

While StarQuest is a PvP server we still want players to be able to have a safe land of their own. Although you are indeed entitled to such land, we do have some restrictions as to where you place it.

Chapter 3.1 - About Worldguard: Edit

Worldguard is a player’s own personal protection that allows them to protect their builds and themselves. This protection is set by the player by selecting two points and creating an area of protection. Ship shields is a feature added into the game that utilizes worldguard as a resource, thus all ship shields are considered worldguards.

Chapter 3.2 - Worldguard Restrictions: Edit

A player must not set a world guard that is larger than 4,000 blocks. If a worldguard is found that is set larger than 4,000 it will be deleted. Ship shields, since they are created by the ship and not by the player, are exempt from this rule. Furthermore, if a single player has more than one worldguard (on the same planet) a random one will be deleted. This does not include ship shields; you may have one regular worldguard and one ship shield on a planet at any given time. It is also illegal to create a world guard around a player or toggle pvp while being hunted or attacked. Worldguards or building of any type may not be established within 256 blocks of a planet's spawn point. A planet's spawn point can be found and labelled on the Galaxy map. It is also illegal to claim a worldguard inside a town or faction, even if you own the town or faction.

Chapter 3.2.1: Edit

In addition to this any WGs within 150 blocks of ANY settlement are not allowed. As Faction wars are allowed and encouraged, you MAY make a WG right outside of the 150 mark of a faction. HOWEVER: WGs that are 151 blocks away from a town will not be tolerated. If you are using WGs to harass town members in some kind of "war" then it will be removed.

Chapter 3.3 - Worldguard Names, Members, and Flags: Edit

Any worldguard with an inappropriate name within the worldguard or in the name itself will be deleted immediately. Likewise, a world guard can only have one flag edited and changed. That is the “Pvp” flag. If any player’s worldguard is found with any other flags set, it will be deleted.

Title 4: Town and Faction Rules Edit

Chapter 4.1 - Town and Faction Names: Edit

All towns and factions must have an appropriate name. Any town or faction that has an inappropriate name will be deleted, and a refund will not be issued to that player. However, if a town or faction has a name that may not necessarily be offensive, or has a different meaning than originally thought, that town’s owner can make a claim defending that name. Once settled, the owner may be allowed to keep the town’s name, or the name may have to be changed. Furthermore, it is illegal to make a town or faction name that is a direct and intentional parody of another. For example, Skydogs is currently a faction, if someone creates a faction such as groundcats, it would be considered illegal under this rule.

Chapter 4.2 - Town and Faction Joining: Edit

Since the server has two different paths, Colonist and Pirate, each path has its own system. Colonists may join only towns, and Pirates may join only factions. Pirates may not join towns by other means (such as the friend list or embassy plots). If a player of the opposite rank joins/makes the opposite system i.e a colonist making/joining a faction or pirate making/joining a town, that person will be removed from that group. A player may only be in one town or faction. Any player caught in multiple towns will be kicked out of one of the towns of our choosing. This rule applies across systems. You may only be in one town or faction. Throughout the entire server. The one and only exception to this would be having a space station and using towny to claim it.

Chapter 4.3 - Town Claiming: Edit

Both towns may claim as much land as they please. However, a town cannot claim within 150 blocks of another town or WG. Towns that are created 51 blocks away from an exsisting town/WG will not be tolerated. If you are using town to harass town members in some kind of "war" then you are subject to punishment. Towns may not claim land or have a building of any type within 256 blocks of a planet's spawn point. Access to planets can not be restricted by any form of player claiming.

Chapter 4.4 - Faction Claiming: Edit

Factions are allowed to over claim the land of another faction if their power is low enough - this also means Factions MAY claim directly next to each other. You CANNOT claim over a town with a faction or claim over a faction with a town. Factions may not claim land or have a building of any type within 256 blocks of a planet's spawn point. Access to planets can not be restricted by any form of player claiming.

Title 5: Ship Rules Edit

Chapter 5.1 - Ship Construction Edit

SQ has a general rule of making your starship look like a vehicle of some kind. This means it would have basic roof, walls, etc. It also means don’t build inappropriate designs. This is subject to interpretation by staff. Offensive ships may be deleted on sight with no refunds.

Title 6: Griefing and Raiding: Edit

This is a big issue on StarQuest. Lets put the bottom line out in bold for everyone to see: You should never, ever, ever modify blocks in a protected land. Modifying includes (but is not limited to) adding/removing blocks, pouring liquid that manages to enter the land, or removing items from locked chests. A protected land is any sort of land protection such as Worldguard, Towny, or Factions.

Chapter 6.1 - General Rules for Griefing and Raiding: Edit

On StarQuest, both griefing and raiding are allowed on the server. If something is not properly protected or not protected at all it is 100% LEGAL to take it or from it. However, there are certain exceptions/restrictions that apply to this rule that will be explained below.

6.1.1 - Definitions Edit

Protected Areas: The blocks inside any Worldguard, Town Claim, or Faction Claim.

6.1.2 - Stealing Ships Edit

It is only okay to steal a ship if you are able to manually break and replace the ship sign outside of the protected area or are already on the sign.

Chapter 6.2 - Worldguard Raiding: Edit

6.2 - Personal Liability Edit

When you enter another player’s Worldguard you are assuming all liability for your ability to enter and exit the region. No staff assistance will be provided to a player who gets trapped or killed in another player’s area. All players have access to “/suicide” if they inadvertently get stuck.

Chapter 6.3 - Towns and Factions Edit

Any bugs or glitches in towns or factions that cause areas to become unprotected or unclaimed may not be used for raiding or griefing. If you see a large unclaimed town or faction double check with a senior moderator or higher that its protections have legitimately expired. Any other exploits that allow you to modify town/faction/wg terrain in ANY way are also illegal.

6.3.1 - Trapping Edit

Owners of towns and factions may not toggle permissions or membership on a player in order to entice them or trap them within a town. Any player who gets stuck during their own raid is at their own risk. It is a town or faction owner’s responsibility to make sure ex-members have successfully vacated the area. Furthermore, if someone is raiding your town or faction you have the right to create a trap for them. Players are also allowed to Potato trap his or her base. These traps fall under the same principle that if someone gets stuck in your base while raiding, it’s his or her fault. Players who attempt to board another ship at spawn, space or on a planet are held responsible to this rule as well. Locking a player in a cryopod with their name is highly illegal. If the player can still /suicide and get back to spawn then that is ok. However denying them the ability to return to spawn/escape your town is not allowed.

Title 7: Player Rights: Edit

Chapter 7.1 - Player Privacy Edit

All players have a privilege to privacy - not a legal right. GMs cannot spy, watch, or teleport to players who have not specifically asked for assistance from a staff member. GMs who violate this rule can be reported by players. RMs and above are allowed to investigate players without announcing their presence if the player has been suspected of breaking the rules. Trial Mods and GMs do not have this privilege of investigatory rights. However, all actions and chat are recorded by the server and may be reviewed by any Head Mod or Developer at any time for any reason. In the unlikely case that somebody does something illegal on our server, any illegal activities will be reported to the authorities and there is no guarantee of any legal privacy for any in game action.

Chapter 7.2 - Staffing Limitations Edit

Players assume all responsibility for their actions, words, and choices. If a player lies to a staff member about an investigation, refund, glitch, or other staff involved activity, then the player loses their privilege to get help from staff members for that incident. Impeding or falsifying information during an investigation can result in disciplinary action up to and including a ban.

Title 8: Player Conduct Edit

Essentially this section could boil down to “be nice.” If you are going to be a toxic member of our community then we may look into giving you some time away from it. While having vendettas or arch nemeses could be fun, don’t make it a personal thing.

Chapter 8.1 - AFK Edit

AFK (Being Away From Keyboard) in and of itself is not against the rules. If you are AFK'ing for over 15 minutes, the auto kick timer will kick you from the server. Trying to bypass or circumvent this AFK auto kick is considered against the rules. The use of roller coasters, water ponds, piston pushers, or any other circumvention device is illegal.

Chapter 8.2 - Threats and Harassment Edit

Threatening to harm a player in a real life faculty is against the rules and probably against the law of your country. For in-game threats to be considered legal, they must specifically contain causes such as: “You took my wheat! I’ll come raid it back!”, “You killed my crew! I’ll get you back once they respawn!”, or “You ate my chicken! I’ll get you back for this heinous crime!”. Additionally, harassing a player is against the rules. Harassment is defined as any form of prodding for information, any form of relentless aggression to a player, or any constant verbal or physical abuse to a player. This includes but is not limited to Potatoual harassment, verbal harassment, and harassment for personal information. This rule also applies to the community's Teamspeak 3 server.

Chapter 8.3 - Harmful Exploits Edit

While creative tricks are encouraged, killing or stealing from players in a protected area (such as spawn or a protected player base) is not allowed. If you are found to have killed or stolen (items* or ships) from a player somewhere they knew was safe, this is considered a harmful exploit. It is not fair to the player you are wronging, as they were under the assumption they were safe.

8.3.1 - Spawn Registers Edit

Some players have found a way to lock themselves into the cash register rooms with other players, thus stealing the money they should have gotten from their items. This is VERY illegal and will also be met with punishment.

Title 9: Rankups and Perks Edit

Chapter 9.1 - Rankups Edit

StarQuest has two main tiers, Pirate and Colonist. When a player first joins he or she makes an application, once accepted that player becomes a settler rank. At this point the player must choose to become a Pirate or a Colonist. If a Refugee player reaches a point in the game where they are at a general level of understanding of the server and have obtained enough resources to sustain themselves, the player will automatically be ranked to Settler whether they have applied or not.

Chapter 9.2 - Switching Tiers: Edit

If a player wants to switch tiers, he or she will be reset to settler and must earn that rank legitimately.

Title 10: Miscellaneous Rules Edit

Chapter 10.1 - Ads Edit

Any direct or indirect mention of another server name or IP is against the rules, regardless of whether you endorse it or not. However you are allowed to talk about Mini game or game servers. Since these servers fall out of the normal category of servers they are allowed to be discussed. These servers MUST be only mini game servers i.e TheHiveMC or Hypixel.

Chapter 10.2 - Alt Accounts Edit

An Alt account is just you on another player. These accounts are not illegal by itself but it is very easy for them to become illegal. Alt accounts are illegal if you are using them to bypass a ban in any way. If a player is caught doing this, his alt account will be banned and the main ban will be extended.

10.2.1 - Alt Shenanigans Edit

Furthermore, using an alt to keep machines and farms and such going is very illegal and will result in a ban. Finally, it is illegal to use an alt account to gain faction or towny land power. However, you may use an alt account to enjoy the server in a different way. As long as you do not use this account to join, raid/grief towns or factions you are welcome to join another town on an alt.

Chapter 10.3 - Rank Abuse Edit

Rank abuse is ranking up in an illegal manner. For example, a pirate killing his friend to rank up. In order to rank up you must gain the money/kills legitimately. If a player exploits or kills friends to rank up he will be deranked. Players may not exploit the Refugee rank. Those who are well established and have enough resources to maintain themselves will be automatically ranked up to settler if they do not apply voluntarily.

Chapter 10.4 - Ban Circumvention Edit

It is against the rules to try to circumvent any ban, regardless of its status. This holds true for all perma-bans and temp-bans.

Title 11: Ship/Item Refunds/Teleports Edit

NEW POLICY ON REFUNDS: If you fill out the github bug report form (found here: LINK) and report the bug on github, then and only then will your refund be considered. You will also need to meet all the other requirements such as the timestamped screenshot.

Chapter 11.1 - Item Refunds: Edit

Any items that are lost to a bug or glitch are potentially subject to refund. If you lose any item(s) and you want to have them refunded you must make a report on github proving: The glitch/bug must have just occurred - you cannot ask for a refund of items you lost more than 24 hours before. You must have a valid screenshot with an accurate time stamp from that day. However, no refund is 100% guaranteed, a mod can choose to deny a refund if it seems too suspicious or too expensive.

Chapter 11.2 - Ship Refunds: Edit

If you lose a ship due to world jump error or any ship-related glitch ask a mod right away to refund your ship. You must not pilot another ship before your request is handled, as the ship restoration system only saves the last ship you flew. The mods have access to /loadship <player> this should spawn you back in the ship you had before. However, please note we do NOT refund ships that were just stolen or damaged by players.

Chapter 11.3 - Teleports Edit

Players cannot be teleported. The only circumstance in which a player can be teleported if his or her cryopod did not work and it was correctly set. However, once again, if the mod believes that there was no cryopod and the player was lying, the mod has the right to not teleport the player.

Title 12: Miscellaneous Policies Edit

Chapter 12.1 - Intent and Letter of the Rules: Edit

All rules are subject to their intention and not their specific wording. The developers and the staff reserve the right to interpret and add to this rule base at any time. “Rule Lawyering” or trying to argue an action is okay but the wording of a rule is not a defense against the intent of the rule.

Chapter 12.2 - Player Toxicity Edit

SQ has always had a “we do not ban players just because we don’t like them policy.” This means that if you happen to be “that guy” who always complains, asks annoying questions, or is up to shenanigans, we won’t punish you just based off of those qualities. HOWEVER: If you continually cause trouble in our community regarding rule breakage, general disobedience to the staff, and/or player harassment, we may be forced to consider giving you an extended vacation from our server and/or forums. As we do not give out permabans, we can promise you that you will be allowed to return. However it may not be for a very long time, or until you can prove you will not stir up trouble in our community.

Chapter 12.3 - Player Renaming Edit

As soon as minecraft enabled player renaming, some of you guys thought it would be fun to rename yourself after planets and other players. While you may think this would be a cool thing to do, we really, really would prefer you not do it. If you name yourself after ANYTHING related to SQ (players, locations, etc) we will have no choice but to ban you until you can change your name to something else.

Punishment System: Edit

When you cross a line on the forums that is bad enough, you will be given a point. After gaining a certain amount of points you will begin to receive bans depending on the amount you have accumulated.

3 Points = 3 day ban 4 Points = 1 week ban 5 Points = 1 month ban 7+ Points = 6 month ban
